General guidance, confirmed options.
FDM and resin printing are offered. The families below explain common considerations; they are not a stock list. Your quote needs to identify the actual material, colour and finish available for your job.
A family name alone is not a complete specification. Formulation, geometry, print orientation and processing can affect the result. Share the requirement first, even if you already have a preferred material.
Common filament families.
- PLA is commonly considered for models and prototypes. Ask about temperature and use conditions rather than assuming it suits every application.
- PETG is often discussed for practical parts. Surface detail, support contact and fit still need attention.
- ASA may be relevant when outdoor exposure is part of the brief. The specific grade and geometry need consideration.
- Flexible material families such as TPU and TPE vary. Describe the movement or compression needed instead of asking only for a flexible print.
Resin and fine detail.
Resin printing is another route to discuss when small features or surface detail are priorities. The resin formulation and the required finishing process matter; different resins should not be treated as interchangeable.
Identify the visible faces and explain how the part will be handled. General manufacturer examples do not establish the equipment or exact grades used for your order.
Bring the requirement with the model.
Tell us if the part will see sunlight, moisture, heat, repeated movement or a specific load. Mark the important interfaces and surface priorities. Where a particular standard or documented performance matters, explain it before ordering so the requirement can be assessed.
Availability and suitability are discussed for the actual part, using the requirements in your brief.
Keep material and surface priorities with the batch.
For a mixed set, record the requested material and finish against each item, or state clearly which requirements apply to every row. Identify a colour preference separately from the geometry and revision. The yellow used in our illustrations is a brand colour, not a material or stock recommendation.
FDM, large-format FDM and resin printing are available at our Manchester workshop. Choose the actual options from the current quote catalogue and discuss the intended use. Technical material guidance explains considerations; it does not establish the grade or performance of an ordered part.
